Laptops and computers share many common issues such as speed issues, viruses, display issues and the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Laptops however, require more effort to fix as the hardware is not as easily accessible. The parts are also more expensive as they may be brand-specific thus, harder to obtain.
Common Laptop Issues
The most frequent problems with laptops include battery life, track-pad issues, storage issues and keyboard problems. These are all usually easy to fix given as long as the required parts are obtainable. One of the main keyboard issues is liquid damage and is due to the fragile internal connections. Wear and tear is also a common issue. A keyboard replacement will be required once key-caps start coming off and the key bracket is damaged. Older laptops will begin to have battery life issues caused by the natural charging and draining of the battery. The maximum charge of the battery will slowly dwindle as this occurs. This issue is generally easy to fix as usually the battery component is easily obtainable and quite easy to access.
Upgrading Your Laptop
Laptop components are usually quite hard to upgrade. They are designed to operate only with what is currently in the laptop. However, storage and ram upgrades are possible. Laptop drives will usually be a 3.5’’ or a 2.5’’ drive which dictates its physical size. A newer laptop may instead have a m.2 form factor. These are just different sizes of storage and can be replaced with larger or faster storage components. The other upgrade component is the ram which has a form factor called SODIMM. Usually laptops will have a spare slot for a potential upgrade. You can also upgrade the size of the ram that is already in the laptop. Upgrading the ram of the system will allow the smooth operation of more intensive/heavier programs such as Photoshop. This upgrade can also be done if you are noticing the computer slowing when you have multiple applications running.
